Our Approach

Our Modernization Strategy

Solutions developed by AXON enable enterprises to attain rapidly the openness and accessibility goals of modern systems without having to replace their existing systems. Functions of existing legacy systems are re-used in new Web-based applications within a service oriented architecture (SOA).

With our offerings, AXON customers can benefit from the flexibility of Web-based systems and improve their business performance on an immediate basis.  Our modernization strategy includes the following:

  • Implementing a SOA which would increase the flexibility of existing legacy systems without having to replace them
  • Prioritizing the deployment of the functions with the highest ROI for the organization
  • Plan and execute the deployment of the remaining functions following the results analysis of the first iteration in accordance with client priorities and needs
  • Define decision criterion related to the re-write or re-use of existing code based on required efforts, project efficiency, and new applications reliability
  • In parallel with this deployment, design a progressive and iterative migration plan for subsequent system replacement
  • Contribution of our expertise centres (JAVA, .NET, iSeries/zseries, Open Source), analysts, and quality assurance teams who have developed efficient methods to collaborate and exchange information

Fast and Tangible Results

Our modernization strategy provides the following benefits to our clients:

  • Initial modernized functions are available within a few weeks
  • The services are developed and re-orchestrated to support new business processes
  • The solutions are cost-effective in comparison to the expenditures  associated to the complete overhaul of existing systems, while achieving much more rapidly the same goals of openness and accessibility
  • The risks are greatly reduced since the existing systems have not been modified and remain available at any time
  • Our solutions have been deployed successfully with demonstrated performance, stability, and effectiveness in large enterprises

The PPT Method

To ensure the success of a SOA project, we believe there are three important aspects to control :

    • People: the teams
    • Processes: the business processes
    • Tools: the technological tools

AXON advocates using best practices in the deployment of a SOA which could affect business processes and human aspects.  We suggest to our clients to establish measures of governance and rigorous project management calling on various committees for decision-making.  This enables a better alignment of the business and IT sectors of the company, and perform a business process optimization exercise prior to starting the development stage.

Mechanisms for knowledge transfer and training are normally undertaken to ensure the assumption of responsibility for the new systems developed by the onsite technical teams and, at the same time, optimize participation in the project according to their availability.

In regards to technological tools, we use our own platform for development and deployment of multi-service applications described in the following section: AXON Plus.
